What a wonderful article from Terry Glavin. We can always rely on him for the proper (as opposed to the politically correct) response to abominations like this story. I hereby donate a non-rude (except maybe to ultra-orthodox Christians), non-obscene swear phrase. It comes from my science fiction reading (courtesy of Niven & Pournelle’s joint series: “Jesus Christ on a crutch”, to be said when you wish to express extreme emotion at the stupidity, idiocy and/or malevolence of _any_ section of humanity. Just add exclamation marks for emphasis.
So, as far as the BCMA story is cncerned “Jesus Christ on a crutch!!!!!!!!!!”
A very well-reasoned and humourous response from Terry Glavin. I particularly like the Basterds references.
It’s amazing just how often the classic, age-old antisemitism (blood libel, murder of Jesus, slaughter of children en masse etc) comes from the online conspiracy movement.
It’s worrying how much it’s spread amongst young people in the noughties. Most of us know someone who’s been sucked in by the David Ickes of this world.
I have no problem with people believing in the paranormal and pseudoscience if they want to – the racial and sexual hate is what I have an issue with, and I don’t recall it being a big issue in those circles back in the Nineties.
